Well, yes it is a peculiar machine. Fry’s salespeople will almost beg you not to buy it - smell something funny there? Loss leader to get you in the door maybe?
And there is no built in wireless or pcmcia slot. But plug in a USB “dongle ” wireless card or velcro onto the top a USB wireless adapter an it works just fine, thank you.
I have carried it to Egypt, Russia, Italy and even NYC etc. No worry about theft - think of it as disposable.
The XP system and hardware are rock solid. No crashes with Office 2000, Photoshop Elements 3.0, Firefox and a half dozen other apps. Better than I can say for many Intel/AMD boxes.
I read the PC Mag review. They were tough on it. I bought it as an impulse buy and viewed it as disposable just like T.J. said. It is not too heavy. I have a USB Belkin wireless adapter and it works fine. It has a cheap feel to it, but for the price it is pretty nice.
PC mag is very biased in their article.
I’ve bought the system used, with Windows XP Home installed on it.
The hardware and XP are very solid, I never even have to reboot my GQ.
When it comes to casing, it’s been pretty durable, and the performance is good too, I’ve been using it to do graphics and run office/mp3/multimedia software just fine. For my money, gq 3203 has really been worth it.
